Resum
The establishment of humanity in the cosmos has led to speculation about contact with other forms of complex life, but little has been thought about the spaces that will host interaction. The novel Solaris, written by Stanislaw Lem, shows us a relevant case study about how space can condition the way of relating to entities that do not follow human logic. The scientific station is conceived with a utilitarian function, as a fine-tuned tool to carry out the complex technical processes for which it was built, but not to play a role in contact. It is designed to work and stay in the background without disturbing, like an efficient piece of equipment. However, the station resoundingly evokes the anthropocentric mental frameworks under which it was conceived, intervenes in the language used in contact, the perception of the extraterrestrial entity and in the conception of reality that scientists use to operate in the universe. The place routinely consolidates the human thought considered acceptable by the inhabitants of the structure, the only one considered valid.
