Descripció breu de l'activitat realitzada
Dr. Juana Mª Gutiérrez Arriola began her research activity in 1995 at the Speech Technology Group of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid where she completed her doctoral thesis entitled "Multispeaker synthesis using voice conversion techniques". The work that should be highlighted from that period involves synthesis of emotions, transformation of voices in synthesis by formants and intonational models. In 2004, she assumed management responsibilities as Academic Secretary of the Escuela Universitaria de Ingeniería Técnica de Telecomunicación until 2008 and as Head of the Department of Circuits and Systems Engineering from 2011 to 2014. In 2009 she joined the Bioengineering and Optoelectronics Research Group to investigate in the pre-processing and segmentation of laryngostroboscopic images and in the segmentation of computerized axial tomography images of the head to reconstruct the upper airways. In this group she also participated in the research line of analysis of pathological voices.
She currently belongs to the group of Multimedia and Acoustic Applications (GAMMA) recognized as an official group of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid in December 2015. GAMMA is a group of the CITSEM, Research Center on Software Technologies and Multimedia Systems for Sustainability. Dr Gutiérrez Arriola is the Secretary of the research center from July 2017.
Her current lines of research are digital processing of dermoscopic images, digital processing of audio signals and detection and localization of sound events. In this last line, she has been supervising a thesis since October 2018 and, in the years 2018 and 2019, she has received funding from the UPM research program to carry out mentoring and research plans with the project “Robust Indoor Detection of Events”.
She has published 8 articles in journals indexed in JCR and more than 20 communications in international congresses of recognized prestige. She has participated in 8 projects of the National Research Plan, in a European project and in several contracts with companies. She is a member of the IEEE and the Spanish Professional Association of Telecommunication Engineers.
For one month, November 2018, she has done a research visit at the Centre for Vision, Speech and Signal Processing under the supervision of Professor Mark Plumbley.
