Jorge works as I3 Associate Professor at the Department of Industrial and Environmental Chemical Engineering in the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales (ETSII) of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) since September 2020, and he holds the seal of excellence of Professor Echegaray of the Community of Madrid. He is member of the research group Tecnologías Ambientales y Recursos Industriales (TAR-Industrial) since his incorporation in UPM during 2017, being the responsible of the research line of “Advanced treatments of water” and the responsible of the research group lab. He has been visiting researcher in Plataforma Solar de Almería-CIEMAT (Spain) and École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (Switzerland).

Jorge holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering and Environmental Technologies from the University of Zaragoza (July 2013, rated as Sobresaliente Cum Laude). In March 2009, he was awarded with a predoctoral fellowship from the Diputación General de Aragón. On January 2014, he continued his professional activity with a postdoctoral research contract in the University of Tràs-os-Montes e Alto Douro (Vila Real, Portugal), in the frame of the INNOFOOD project. During this 18-month postdoctoral stay, he studied the application of water treatment technologies to agro-industrial effluents. Next, a second postdoctoral stay was held at the Rey Juan Carlos University (24 months). In a first stage, Jorge was hired in the frame of MOTREM project, and in June 2016, he was awarded with the postdoctoral grant Juan de la Cierva-formación. During these 24 months, Jorge works on the monitoring and removal of micropollutants in wastewater.

Overall, he has 13 years of experience in research, being his main research lines strongly focused on the development and application of sustainable treatments for treatment of different water matrices (freshwater, urban or industrial wastewater), especially focused on the disinfection and removal of contaminants of emerging concern by photoassisted advanced oxidation processes, as photochemical and photocatalytic treatments, at different scales. Besides, Jorge is also working on the research line of water quality and management, assessment of environmental impacts by life cycle assessment and industrial symbiosis. He has developed this activity under his participation in 8 R+D national and European Projects, being Principal Investigator of 4 of them: two projects from Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, and 2 from Regional Government of Madrid (In_Reuse project and Echegaray Project). Besides, he has participated in 4 Projects of Innovation in Education (1 European- Erasmus+, 3 National). He obtained the recognition of a six-year scientific research period (Sexenio 2009-2015). Besides, he has directed, 37 Final Degree Research projects, with another 12 in progress, and co-directing 1 Doctoral Thesis.

Director of Aula CIMNE-ETSII and member of the Steering Committee of the research community UPMWater. He is also member of Water Europe, IAHR and Red META. Besides, Jorge was member of the Steering Committee and Head of the Training and Technologies Area of IWA Young Water Professionals Spanish Chapter (2018-2020).

In overall he has contributed with 46 peer-reviewed publications, 7 technical articles in non-indexed journals and 4 book chapters, as well, he was the editor of the book of abstracts of IWA Young Water Professionals Conference 2019. More specifically, 86% of the publications are in Q1 ranked journals (Scopus), in the “Environmental Engineering”, “Environmental Sciences” and “Chemical Engineering”. Currently he has a Scopus H-index of 18 (975 citations; 11.01.2022), and Google Scholar H-index of 20 (1189 citations; 11.01.2022). On conference dissemination level, he has contributed with more than 50 communications in national and international conferences, approximately 20 talks in workshops and seminars, including 1 keynote (4th CCPAOHX; Colombia) and 1 invited talk (ICFM & MFMS & INM 2019; China). Besides, Jorge has acted as Chair on the organization and Chair of the Scientific Committee of IWA Young Water Professionals 2019 Conference, and he was member of IWA YWP Spain Conference 2017. Besides, he is member of the scientific committees of Iberoamerican Conference on Advanced Oxidation Technologies and AOPs PhD School.

He serves as a reviewer for 20+ Scientific Journals. He is Editor of “Water”, “Sustainability”, “Applied Sciences” and “ChemEngineering” Journals of the MDPI Publishers (Switzerland). He has acted as Guest Editor in different Special Issues of “Chemical Engineering Journal Advances” (Elsevier) and two in “Water” (MDPI). Finally, he has participated in the jury and/or the external evaluation committee of PhD Theses and international Final Degree Research projects and has evaluated research projects for Agencia Andaluza del Conocimiento. He has been awarded as Youth of the Year in the water sector in 2020, by iAgua.

Profesor Titular de Universidad en el Departamento de Ingeniería Química Industrial y Ambiental de la Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales (ETSII) de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) desde septiembre de 2022. Jorge es doctor en Ingeniería Química y Tecnologías Ambientales por la Universidad de Zaragoza (julio de 2013, calificado como Sobresaliente Cum Laude). En marzo de 2009 obtuvo una beca predoctoral de la Diputación General de Aragón. En enero de 2014, continuó su actividad profesional con un contrato de investigación postdoctoral en la Universidad de Tràs-os-Montes e Alto Douro (Vila Real, Portugal), en el marco del proyecto INNOFOOD. Durante esta estancia postdoctoral de 18 meses, estudió la aplicación de tecnologías de tratamiento de aguas a los efluentes agroindustriales. En una primera etapa, Jorge fue contratado en el marco del proyecto MOTREM, y en junio de 2016, se le concedió la beca postdoctoral Juan de la Cierva-formación. Durante estos 24 meses, Jorge trabaja en la monitorización y eliminación de microcontaminantes en aguas residuales.

En total, cuenta con 14 años de experiencia en investigación, estando sus principales líneas de investigación fuertemente centradas en el desarrollo y aplicación de tratamientos sostenibles para diferentes matrices acuosas, especialmente centradas en la desinfección y eliminación de contaminantes de interés emergente mediante procesos de oxidación avanzada fotoasistida, como tratamientos fotoquímicos y fotocatalíticos, a diferentes escalas. Además, Jorge también trabaja en la línea de investigación de la calidad y gestión del agua, la evaluación de los impactos ambientales mediante la evaluación del ciclo de vida y la simbiosis industrial. Ha desarrollado esta actividad participando en 14 Proyectos de I+D nacionales y europeos, siendo Investigador Principal de 6 de ellos: dos proyectos del plan nacional, dos proyectos de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, y 2 de la Comunidad de Madrid (Proyecto In_Reuse y Proyecto Echegaray). Además, ha participado en 4 Proyectos de Innovación Educativa (1 Europeo- Erasmus+, 3 Nacionales). Ha obtenido el reconocimiento de dos sexenios de investigación científica (Sexenio 2009-2015; 2016-2021). Además, ha dirigido 1 Tesis Doctoral, más de 40 Trabajos Fin de Titulación de Investigación.

Director del Aula CIMNE-ETSII y miembro del Comité de Dirección de la comunidad investigadora UPMWater. También es miembro de Water Europe, IAHR y Red META. Además, Jorge ha sido miembro del Comité de Dirección y Responsable del Área de Formación y Tecnologías del Capítulo Español de Young Water Professionals de la IWA (2018-2020).

En total ha contribuido con 54 publicaciones revisadas por pares, 7 artículos técnicos en revistas no indexadas y 6 capítulos de libros, así como ha sido el editor del libro de resúmenes de la IWA Young Water Professionals Conference 2019. En concreto, el 86% de las publicaciones se encuentran en revistas de rango Q1 (Scopus), en las áreas de \"Environmental Engineering\", \"Environmental Sciences\" y \"Chemical Engineering\". Actualmente tiene un índice H de Scopus de 23 (1528 citas; 14.02.2023), y un índice H de Google Scholar de 26 (1886 citas; 14.02.2023). A nivel de difusión de congresos, ha contribuido con más de 50 comunicaciones en congresos nacionales e internacionales, aproximadamente 20 charlas en talleres y seminarios, incluyendo 1 plenary talk (GreenChem; Italia), 1 keynote (4th CCPAOHX; Colombia) y 1 charla invitada (ICFM & MFMS & INM 2019; China). Además, Jorge ha actuado como Presidente en la organización y Presidente del Comité Científico de la Conferencia IWA Young Water Professionals 2019, y fue miembro de la Conferencia IWA YWP Spain 2017. Además, es miembro de los comités científicos de la Conferencia Iberoamericana de Tecnologías Avanzadas de Oxidación y de la Escuela de Doctorado AOPs.

Es revisor de más de 20 revistas científicas. Es editor asociado en la revista Chemical Engineering Science (Elsevier) y de las revistas \"Water\", \"Sustainability\", \"Applied Sciences\" y \"ChemEngineering\" de la editorial MDPI (Suiza). Ha actuado como editor invitado en diferentes números especiales de \"Chemical Engineering Journal Advances\" (Elsevier) y dos en \"Water\" (MDPI). Por último, ha participado en el jurado y/o comité de evaluación externa de Tesis Doctorales y Proyectos de Investigación de Fin de Carrera internacionales y ha evaluado proyectos de investigación para la Agencia Andaluza del Conocimiento. Ha sido premiado como Joven del Año en el sector del agua en 2020, por iAgua.
