Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need to ensure good accessibility to healthcare centres, which first requires to study mobility patterns. This work presents a new method based on a dual vision of healthcare centres: as a public facility and as a workplace. This method is applied to the case study of La Paz University Hospital, one of the most important Spanish hospitals. Through a survey campaign using different collection methods, the mobility patterns of patients and staff were studied, obtaining a total of 2,160 valid responses. According to the results, the private vehicle is the predominant mode with a modal share of more than 50%, aggravating the parking problems. Finally, this study has analysed behavioural changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which have led to a decrease in the use of public transport, with commuters now opting for active modes or the private vehicle.
