Abstract
The exhibition Architecture Without Architects opened in 1964 at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Analyzing the curatorial strategy carried out by architect Bernard Rudofsky, it is possible to point out AWA as an unprecedented milestone, not only for how it presented a new way of understanding architecture, but also for the use of exclusively photographic material that generated a dialectical structure through post-production work, reusing images with various origins. The exhibition design, also by Rudofsky, generated a cartographic structure, related to Atlas Mnemosyne, which moved away from traditional linear and chronological modes, to expand the viewer's field of vision in favor of a transversal and simultaneous reading, turning AWA into a mandatory reference in the world of architectural exhibitions of the time, opening new modes of communication in architecture.
