Abstract

The main objective of this study is the analysis of the sediment mobilization during the controlled flood event on 5th May 2022. During this event a test campaign was carried out, including flow gauging and measures of turbidity and suspended sediments concentration. This information has allowed the numerical simulation of the Ebro River lower course from the Flix dam to the mouth with the model Iber, a 2D Eulerian model based on the finite volumes scheme. For this, the sediment transport module has been employed, solving the advection - diffusion equation using the Van - Rijn erosion-sedimentation model and solving the Exner mass conservation to study the riverbed evolution. Results of the numerical model are consistent with the test campaign and validate the Iber model to analyze the transport of suspended sediments in the study area.
