Abstract

The COVID-19 health emergency has significantly altered spatial dynamics from the global to the local scale, and the potential relevance of urban density as a risk factor has been raised in the public debate. This article analyses how monthly indicators have changed in the 21 Districts of the city of Madrid during the emergency. The case is relevant due to its size and diversity, as well as due to its unusual open data availability. The correlation between built density and illness incidence has not been relevant, although in a certain moment average home sizes and overcrowding was probably relevant. The mobility scenario shows interesting trends, which could be related to a generalization of telecommuting. The data used have allowed an evaluation of the ability of the current open data systems to integrate in an urban digital twin oriented towards a sustainable city management.

  • The use of this contribution in bookmarks, code forks, additions to favorite lists for recurrent reading, as well as general views, indicates that someone is using the publication as a basis for their current work. This may be a notable indicator of future more formal and academic citations. This claim is supported by the result of the "Capture" indicator, which yields a total of: 7 (PlumX).

With a more dissemination-oriented intent and targeting more general audiences, we can observe other more global scores such as:

  • The Total Score from Altmetric: 10.
