Abstract

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations FAO has proposed using the Penman-Monteith model as the standard for estimating reference evapotranspiration (ET0), and for evaluating other methods. The main obstacle to using the PM-FAO 56 (PM) method widely is the required data which are not available in most of the stations. The use of an alternative calculation procedure is recommended. The Hargreaves equation (HG) is recommended by FAO and is most often used in literature with limited weather data. The main objective of this study is to investigate the possibility for calibrating the equation in Coronel Dorrego through the adjustment of Hargreaves coefficient. PM and HG methods have been compared, showing very good accuracy. It is concluded that the HG is a recommended methodology, and suggest the following formula: ETo HG = 0,00206·Ra·(Tmáx-Tmín) 0,49·(tm+17,8) mm/day.
