Abstract

3D printed metamaterials are a human-designed class of material capable of providing uncommon properties unseen in nature. The power of freedom of design provided by additive manufacturing in metamaterials is useless if robust and efficient modelling tools are not available. The objective of this work is to validate and study the different options for finite element simulation of metamaterials to provide the best solutions in terms of mechanical precision and computational efficiency. We propose a new hybrid material agnostic modelling method to compute the mechanical response of metamaterial with the same precision than time-consuming detailed meshed simulations but with the time efficiency of simple beams models.

Impact and social visibility

From the perspective of influence or social adoption, and based on metrics associated with mentions and interactions provided by agencies specializing in calculating the so-called "Alternative or Social Metrics," we can highlight as of 2025-06-14:

  • The use of this contribution in bookmarks, code forks, additions to favorite lists for recurrent reading, as well as general views, indicates that someone is using the publication as a basis for their current work. This may be a notable indicator of future more formal and academic citations. This claim is supported by the result of the "Capture" indicator, which yields a total of: 4 (PlumX).
