Brief description ot the activity
My research profile is mainly developed in the area of multi-modal image processing and analysis, applied to different contexts, among which we can highlight: Earth Observation and Bioinformatics (different modalities of medical images). As for the lines in which I have developed my research, they can be summarized in five: (i) Image Processing Architectures, (ii) Joint Transformations, (iii) Machine Learning and Artificial Neural Networks, (iv) Data Integration and (v) Object Based Image Processing (OBIA).
During the 32 years of research work (1987-2019), the main scientific achievements have been
* Formation of a multidisciplinary and international research group that has been accumulating experience in the field of image processing and its different applications for more than 20 years.
* Development of techniques and methods for the generation of high quality spatial and spectral images. These results have been included in an open access framework that incorporates a battery of image fusion algorithms, developed in-house, as well as the metrics to evaluate the quality of the fused images (http://ijfusion.es). In addition to the usual scientific dissemination channels, these developments were transmitted to the entire Spanish remote sensing community through the organization of two scientific conferences on this subject.
*Development of new artificial neural network algorithms for their application to image analysis in different domains.
* Development of methodologies for processing and analysing images based on objects for their application in precision agriculture and disease detection.
*Transfer of knowledge to the productive sector, both public and private The participation in the AquaSat system, a dynamic support system for irrigation decision making at the farm level that combines satellite information with field data, is worth mentioning. It allows the estimation of water demands and the zoning of management areas, providing historical information, irrigation recommendations and analysis tools. The results of the project were mainly the development, implementation and validation of the AquaSat technology package and its impacts on agricultural production.
