Brief description ot the activity

In the period 1990-97, my work consisted of organising and kick-off the research group "Area of Engineering in Electronic Equipment, Test and Measurement" in the Department of Electronic Systems and Control in the UPM. The lines of work for High-Performance Modular Instrumentation, Automatic Measurement Systems, Data Acquisition Systems, and Virtual Processing and Instrumentation were developed, with the support of different research projects funded by the UPM and by research contracts managed by the TTO. In 1997 I joined the Acoustics R & D Division of the Institute of Automobile Research of the UPM School of Industrial Engineers. During the period from 1998 to 2002, I developed my doctoral thesis. During this period, I participate in the application and management of several projects to provide infrastructure to the INSIA and the Acoustics Division. I was involved in the creation and start-up of the Laboratory for the UPM Calibration of Acoustic Instruments (the year 2000) as Technical Director. The laboratory was accredited (ISO17025) by ENAC in 2001. In 2008, UPM created the Instrumentation and Applied Acoustics (I2A2) research group. In November 2009 UPM and CISC signed an agreement to create a Joint Center called Center for Applied Acoustics and Non-destructive Evaluation (CAEND, 60 researchers). In September 2011, I was appointed Deputy Director. In January 2013, the centre was dissolved, and my work finished. The different research and management activities done in this period are:

•Start-up of the research line in Advanced Instrumentation and Electroacoustic Instrumentation Systems. In 2000, contact was made with the Data Acquisition Group of the National Fusion Laboratory of CIEMAT to begin collaborating in the area of Instrumentation and Virtual Instrumentation Systems. From 2002 to 2009, I participated in several R&D&I projects related to the thermonuclear fusion program.

•Development of collaboration with CIDA to collaborate in R+D+I projects related to the realisation of instruments and high-speed cameras for PbSe infrared sensors.

•Enhance the line of work of embedded instruments and systems. In particular, since 2008, I have participated in three projects of the CENIT program, one of them directed by me, aimed at defining, implementing and testing an embedded solution for SHM applications. In 2015, a project of the Airframe program was obtained within CleanSky 2, which is called SHERLOC.

•Strengthen the line of work of electroacoustic instrumentation and acoustic metrology

•Strengthen collaboration with CIEMAT, JET, and ITER. The research line has been continued through national R&D projects. With JET / CIEMAT I collaborated since 2008 in the research and development of several advanced acquisitions and rapid processing platforms. In 2009, because of contacts with JET, CIEMAT and the IFPN IST in Lisbon, several projects were started for the international thermonuclear fusion experiment ITER. This line of activity has been consolidated with the obtaining of multiple contracts that have involved CIEMAT and various Spanish and foreign companies. Currently, I am leading the activities to standardize the ITER fast controller architectures to deploy real time solutions using NDS framework and EPICS applications. These activities are done in the framework of different contract leaded by UPM with ITER-CODAC.  Since august 2019, I am a visiting researcher in CCFE in UK working with the team headed by Dr Stephen.
