Brief description ot the activity
After graduation as Ingeniero de Telecomunicación at the Universidad de Valladolid (UVA), I started my research and teaching career through a Formación del Personal Investigador Grant from the Comunidad de Castilla y León for a PhD project in the Laboratorio de Procesado de Imagen (LPI) of the UVA studying cardiac function computational biomarker extraction by imaging. During my PhD I worked on segmentation, registration, interpolation, simulation and motion estimation problems that lead, among others, to 5 first author Q1 publications, opening fruitful lines of research for the LPI.
After my PhD viva, I joined the Center for the Developing Brain (CDB), St Thomas' Hospital, King's College London (KCL), a multidisciplinary group devoted to clinical and experimental neuroscience. Within a European Research Council project, I led the development of enabling technologies for the acquisition and reconstruction of neonatal and fetal brain imaging. These technologies supported the collection and public release of an unprecedented source of in vivo information about the early stages of brain development, including anatomical, micro-structural and functional datasets for around 1000 neonates and 500 fetuses. At the CDB, my research and collaboration with fields such as basic and translational neurobiology, magnetic resonance imaging physics and analysis, and clinical investigation, has resulted in a diverse production with more than 40 works in JCR journals.
I have recently been awarded a Beatriz Galindo fellowship for the attraction of research talent with a project for fetal imaging phenotyping based on machine learning, entering the research group Tecnología de Imágenes Biomédicas (BIT) and the teaching structure of the Departamento de Ingeniería Electrónica (DIE) of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). Besides this, I keep several international collaborations including an honorary contract with KCL.
During my career, I have lectured in higher education, from first to third cycle, participated in several research projects, developed and published software tools, propelled technology transfer contracts, participated in the organization and moderation of conferences and seminars, performed peer-reviews, given invited talks at conferences and seminars, as well as dissemination talks, supervised Master's Thesis, supervised PhD students internships, performed external audits of scientific projects, and belonged to scientific societies and professional associations. I have contributed to more than 50 JCR journal articles, 10 book chapters and 100 conference abstracts. My h-index is 21 (Google Scholar) / 15 (Scopus) and papers I have co-authored have received 1734 (Google Scholar) / 935 (Scopus) citations.B.1.
