Resumen
Digital Image Correlation (DIC) is a contactless non-destructive technique based on the acquisition and treatment of pictures that allows displacement and strains fields to be measured as well as other relevant information. Nowadays, the use of DIC for structural experiments is continuously growing and complementing (or even replacing) conventional instrumentation. However, it has the disadvantage that the accuracy of its results can become highly dependent on the post processing phase. The present work aims to show the potential of DIC system as a tool to monitor crack propagation of concrete beams. For it, a concrete beam progressively loaded to different levels of increasing loading with a four-point bending test is used. Damage progression during loading is monitored by means of a DIC system. Strain localization and crack growth propagation were successfully observed in the during the tests. The experimental results show that the proposed detection scheme achieves a good accuracy and an acceptable time for the classification of the images according to their level of damage severity. The proposed scheme can be used as a starting point of other more developed methodologies involving deep learning approaches.
