M.Sc. (2004) and Ph.D. (2009) on Telecommunications Engineering from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM), Spain. He was a visiting researcher at the Institut de Recherches Interdisciplinaires et de Développements in Intelligence Artificielle, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Brussels, Belgium in 2007.

Assistant Professor since 2005, Assistant Professor Doctor since 2010, Associate Professor (Profesor Contratado Doctor) since 2011 and Associate Professor (Profesor Titular de Universidad) since 2019 in the Department of Special Technologies Applied to Telecommunications (TEAT) and the Department of Photonics Technology and Bioengineering (TFB) of the UPM, in the Area of Systems Engineering and Automation. He has 2 teaching sections (quinquenios) granted.

His lines of research focus on the fields of intelligent control, swarm robotics, swarm intelligence, control systems and robotics applied to bioengineering and energy systems with special emphasis on the active management of electricity demand.

He has worked on more than 30 research and development projects, being IP in 12 of them, funded by international organizations (European Commission), national institutions (Autonomous Community of Madrid, Ministry of Industry and Energy, Ministry of Education and Science, Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and the UPM) and private companies and foundations, all of them related to collective robotics, self-organized systems and control and energy systems. These projects have covered areas from collective robotics to the management of electricity demand in self-sufficient houses, in which swarm intelligence techniques focused on local, distributed and embodied communication have been applied.

He has published 38 articles in indexed international journals, 28 of them in Q1, 33 articles in national and international conferences and 4 book chapters. These publications provide more than 2100 total citations, with an h-index of 19 and an i-10 index of 30. He has 2 research sections (sexenios) granted, has supervised two Doctoral Theses and is supervising four more; two of them granted for the realization of Industrial Doctorates in the Community of Madrid (2018 and 2020 calls).

He is director of the Renewable Distributed Generation and Intelligent Control Research Group of the UPM and is a member of the Commission of Experimental Spaces of the Innovation and Technology for Development Centre at the UPM. He is permanent reviewer of more than ten international journals, Senior Member of the IEEE and member of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society and of the IEEE Control System Society.

In the academic and management field, he has been Academic Secretary of the TEAT Department (2012-2014), Academic Secretary of the TFB Department (2014-2017), Academic Secretary of the Academic Committee of the University Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering (2015-2017) and is currently the Academic Secretary of the E.T.S. Ingenieros de Telecomunicación (2017-Present). He has been an elected member of the Academic Planning Commission (2012-2017) and is an elected member of the School Board of the E.T.S. Ingenieros de Telecomunicación (2016-Present), elected member of the University Board of the UPM (2009-Present) and elected member of the Company Committee of Teaching Personnel and Labor Researcher of the UPM (2015 - 2019).

In the field of technology transfer, he is a founding partner of the RBZ Robot Design S.L. (2003),  Click Museums S.L (2006) and Urban Wisee S.L. (2021= companies and has 1 transference section (sexenio de transferencia).
