Brief description ot the activity
Luis González-Portillo is Associate Professor ofEnergy Engineering at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). His researchfocuses on high-temperature thermal systems, with particular emphasis onConcentrated Solar Power (CSP), thermal energy storage, and CO₂-free hydrogen production. In the field of CSP, he has contributed tomultiple projects funded by the European Union and the U.S. Department ofEnergy (DOE), also serving as a reviewer for DOE-funded initiatives. Hisprimary focus areas include the design of advanced solar collectors and thetechno-economic analysis of particle-based systems, developed in collaborationwith Sandia National Laboratories. Additionally, Luis is involved in severalprojects focused on hydrogen production through methane pyrolysis with liquidmetals, including a collaborative project with MIT. Luis holds a PhD in energyengineering from UPM, Masters and Bachelors in mechanical engineering from UPM,and a Masters in aeronautical engineering from University Carlos III of Madrid.
