- Enrique J. Gómez Aguilera se incorporó al campo de la Ingeniería Biomédica (BME)

cuando comenzó sus estudios de Ingeniería de Telecomunicación en la ETSI Ingeniería

de Telecomunicación de la Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). Su primera actividad

formal en esta disciplina se llevó a cabo en 1983 con la creación y dirección Grupo de

Bioingeniería de estudiantes del capítulo IEEE de la ETSIT. En 1985 defendió su proyecto fin

de carrera en el campo de "Monitorización ambulatoria y evaluación de patrones de respuesta

motora en la enfermedad de Parkinson" y en 1988 su Tesis Doctoral titulada "Una nueva

metodología para el control metabólico de la diabetes". Desde entonces, toda su actividad

docente e investigadora se ha desarrollado de forma continuada en el campo de la Ingeniería

Biomédica. Ha sido "Visiting Fellow" en el "City University-Measurement and Information

Institute" (Londres, 1991), profesor invitado en la Universidad de Patras (Grecia, 1989-1994),

Technical Univ. de Sczcecin (Polonia, 1998-2001) y la Universidad de Atenas (Grecia, desde

1990).

-Actualmente es Catedrático de Ingeniería Biomédica de la UPM, Jefe del

Departamento de TF y Bioingeniería y Director del Grupo de Investigación GBT. Investigador

Titular del Centro Nacional de Investigación en Bioingeniería, Biomateriales y Nanomedicina

del Instituto Nacional de Salud y del CTB de la UPM.

-Ha desarrollado una intensa actividad en la promoción y creación de programas educativos

en BME tanto a nivel de grado como de posgrado. Es Director del Master Universitario en

Ingeniería Biomédica en la UPM (desde 2006-)

.-Ha establecido varias líneas de investigación en Ingeniería Biomédica en la UPM:

1) Telemedicina y mHealth para cuidados crónicos; 2) Imágenes Médicas, Planificación

Quirúrgica y Cirugía Guiada por Imágenes, y 3) Ingeniería de Neurorrehabilitación y Salud

Cerebral.

-Autor de 187 artículos de revistas y 404 publicaciones en actas de congresos. Director de

19 tesis doctorales. Investigador principal en 90 proyectos de investigación: 47 proyectos de

investigación españoles (22 de investigación y desarrollo, 20 de investigación, desarrollo e

innovación con industria), 39 proyectos de investigación de la UE y 4 proyectos CIBER-BBN.

- Presidente de la Sociedad Española de Ingeniería Biomédica (2020-) y Honorary Life

Member (2018) de IFMBE (Federación Internacional de Ingeniería Médica y Biológica).

-Ha sido presidente de EIT Health España (Instituto Europeo de Innovación y Tecnología

en Salud ) (2019-2021). Miembro fundador de EAMBES (European Alliance of Medical &

Biological Engineering Society) y miembro de la junta directiva (2005-2009). Es miembro del

Consejo Científico de la Fundación Gadea para la Ciencia.

- Enrique J. Gómez Aguilera joined the field of Biomedical Engineering (BME) when he began his studies in Telecommunications Engineering at the ETSI Telecommunications Engineering of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM). His first formal activity in this discipline was carried out in 1983 with the creation and direction of the students "IEEE Bioengineering Group" of the IEEE chapter of ETSIT. In 1985 he defended his master's thesis in the field of "Ambulatory monitoring and evaluation of motor response patterns in Parkinson's disease" and in 1988 his Doctoral Thesis entitled "A new methodology for the metabolic control of diabetes". Since then, all his teaching and research activity has been carried out continuously in the field of Biomedical Engineering. He has been "Visiting Fellow" at the "City University-Measurement and Information Institute" (London, 1991), visiting professor at the University of Patras (Greece, 1989-1994), Technical Univ. Of Sczcecin (Poland, 1998-2001) and the University of Athens (Greece, since 1990).

- He is currently Professor of Biomedical Engineering at UPM, Head of the Department of PT and Biomedical Engineering and Director of the GBT Research Center. Senior Researcher at the National Center for Research in Bioengineering, Biomaterial and Nanomedicine of the National Institute of Health and the CTB of the UPM.

-He has developed an intense activity in the promotion and creation of educational programs at BME at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He is Director of the Master of Science at BME at UPM (since 2006-).

-He has established several lines of research in Biomedical Engineering at the UPM: Technologies for Diabetes Care, Medical Imaging and Image-Guided Surgery, and BME in Neurorehabilitation and Brain Health. He has six research recognized stretches (5 for research and 1 for technology transfer).

-Author of 186 journal articles and 394 publications in conference proceedings. Supervisor of 19 doctoral theses. Principal investigator in 12 Spanish research projects, 11 industry projects and 28 EU research projects.

-President of the Spanish Society of Biomedical Engineering (2020-) and Honorary Life Member (2018) of IFMBE (International Federation of Medical and Biological Engineering).-He has been president of EIT Health Spain (European Institute of Innovation and Technology in Health) (2019-2021). Founding member of EAMBES (European Alliance of Medical & Biological Engineering Society) and member of the board of directors (2005-2009). He is a member of the Scientific Council of the “Gadea Foundation for Science”.

-The BME Engineering in Neurorehabilitation and Brain Health research line, which includes this project proposal, was initiated by Prof. Gómez together Dr. JM Tormos (Scientic Director of Guttmann hospital) in 2006. In the latter 15 years, this interdisciplinarity team have developed 10 R&D&i projects (2 national, 5 with industries and 3 EU), 6 doctoral thesis and 1 commercial product.
