He has 4 active research sexenios (up to 2020).
He led the team that won the Albayzin 2012international competition in Language recognition.
He worked as “Research Associate” in the University of Cambridge (UK), in the Speech, Vision and Robotics Group, for 6 months (2001).
His teaching has been evaluated in the program Docentia-UPM, in the periods 2007-2012 and 2012-2017 with a final evaluation of “Very positive” in all categories. Date of last evaluation: December 20th, 2018.
He has been an Evaluator of ANEP projects in the years 2003-2010, 2014-2016, 2019-2020. Also an evaluator of the ACAP from the Comunidad de Madrid in June of 2012. Evaluator of IMSERSO projects in 2006 and 2007.
He has been a member of the Scientific Review Committee of the Interspeech conferences between 2005 and 2021, the most relevant international conference dedicated to speech technologies. He has also been member of the Scientific Committee of the LREC conferences between 2008 and 2022, Speech Prosody conferences between 2008 and 2022, Speech Odyssey conferences between 2016 and 2020, ICASSP conferences between 2017 and 2021.
He has been a reviewer of 12 indexed journals in the Web of Science.
He has been the Subdirector of the “Departamento de Ingeniería Electrónica” from October, 23d, 2008, until June 16th, 2012. He is currently the Secretary of the “Departamento de Ingeniería Electrónica” from February, 8th, 2019.
He was the Director of the PhD program in the “Departamento de Ingeniería Electrónica” from June of 2010 until June 2012. He was the Coordinator of the “Master Universitario en Ingeniería de Sistemas Electrónicos” and the “Doctorado en Ingeniería de Sistemas Electrónicos”.
He has supervised 3 PhD Thesis in the last 10 years, all with Sobresaliente cum Laude. He has supervised also more than 30 Master Thesis, almost all of them dedicated to research activities. Many of them have continued their research career, as the other IP of this project, Luis Fernando D’Haro (PhD), and another member, Rubén San-Segundo (Master Thesis).
He has authored more than 100 articles in journals and conferences with peer review:

He has been a Project Principal Researcher in: 1 international project, 1 national project, 4 projects with external funding;
He has been a Project Researcher in: 6 int. projects, 24 national projects from Plan Nacional or with competitive public funding, 6 projects funded by the Comunidad de Madrid, 8 projects with external funding.
He has 1 patent and 4 software programs registered in the “Registro de Propiedad Intelectual”.
His contribution to the society can be seen in the activities with private companies where the research activities have been applied to the products and applications from those companies. Very recently, he is the IP of a project with Cloud Worldwide Services S.L for two years where the results of years of research in language and speaker identification will be applied to the company applications.
As dissemination activities, he has taught several seminars related to speech technologies in the Laboratorio de Fonética in CSIC in colaboration with the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP), in the "Máster Universitario en Fonética y Fonología" (year 2013, 6 hours, year 2016, 7 hours). Also, in the Facultad de Ingeniería, Universidad Autónoma de Occidente, Santiago de Cali, Colombia (year 2011, 40 hours), and in the Universidad San Pablo – CEU included in the "CEU Summer school on Advanced Statistics and Data Mining" for 3 years, 2006-2008, 15 hours each year.
